Mercury Stardust and Jory Raise Funds for Point of Pride with TikTok-a-Thon – Two TikTok creators have raised over $1 million for trans healthcare and gender-affirming surgeries in a 30-hour “TikTok-a-Thon” fundraiser. Mercury Stardust and Jory, known as an alluring skull on the platform, organized the fundraiser for the nonprofit Point of Pride to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility. The funds raised will be used to purchase 10,000 chest binders and gaffs, provide hormone replacement therapy, and fund gender-affirming surgeries.

The organizers reached their initial goal of $1 million within six hours of the live stream, which began on Thursday evening and went until Friday evening. Stardust and Jory, along with Point of Pride president and co-founder Aydian Dowling, engaged with viewers throughout the continuous stream.

The money raised will have a significant impact on the trans community, according to Dowling. He said the fundraiser sends a strong message to both the community and those outside it that trans people are valid and should be included in conversations rather than eliminated.

Jory expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support, especially given the recent uptick of anti-LGBTQ legislation. She believes that the fundraiser and the hope it brings for access to healthcare can save lives. As of Friday afternoon, the creators had reached over $1.6 million, and Dowling believes that this is just the start of a movement that will have a lasting impact on the trans community.

The success of this fundraiser highlights the importance of community and mutual aid in providing access to healthcare for marginalized groups. Through social media platforms like TikTok, creators and activists can raise awareness and funds for causes they are passionate about, creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
